Asbury DC Oral Histories

FRIDAY | OCTOBER 21, 2022

Asbury UMC DC Oral Histories is back in 2022! This year's Oral History Showcase is a must-see!

Our newest oral histories will be highlighted during a Zoom discussion at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, with personal stories that bring to life African American history in and beyond the District from people who experienced it.

We will be showing video clips from interview recordings of five Asbury leaders who shared with us their journeys through life. Our 2022 narrators are:

  • Rev. Dr. Ianther Mills, Asbury’s senior pastor since 2013
  • Rev. Dr. Louis Shockley, senior pastor, 2004—2013
  • Rev. Dr. Eugene Matthews, senior pastor, 1992—2004
  • Ruth Scarbrough, longtime worship chair
  • Everett Williams Jr., minister of music

Reminisce with the narrators as they talk about Asbury's influence in the community and their work in and beyond the church. Learn about astonishing, inspiring and amusing events in the life of these narrators. Talk to them about their stories.

Your hosts for the Zoom discussion are project director Adelle Banks, team member Pandit Wright and Movies at Asbury co-leader Kelvin Childs. This event will be recorded.
