The Philosophy of Tolkien

SUNDAYS STARTING OCTOBER 19

Since its publication in 1954, J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic tale The Lord of the Rings has been read and enjoyed by hundreds of millions of people globally. So what is it about this book that makes it admired by so many?  To find out, you are invited to join Anthony Gaines Cirelli for an 8-week study and discussion of the book, The Philosophy of Tolkien, by Dr. Peter Kreeft.  The class will unpack the complex worldview of the author and make the case for why this worldview is the key to understanding LOTR’s  perennial attraction and the enchantment it has had over its many readers.

Class will meet Sundays from 10:10 to 11:00 in Room 203 beginning October 19.  With no class on November 30, (Thanksgiving weekend), we will conclude on December 14.

We encourage you to have read the LOTR trilogy. We assume that the greater your familiarity with LOTR, the more you will get out of the Kreeft book and class discussion.
