Members and friends of Foundry,

It's that time — our annual stewardship campaign for 2023 has begun. This is when we gather estimates of giving for the coming year from everyone at Foundry including, we hope, you.

As part of our “Future with Hope” campaign, you’ll hear from members of our congregation about how important your financial commitments are to the mission and ministry of Foundry Church in the coming year.

Yes, Foundry needs your financial commitments and gifts to continue the work God calls us to do. Just a few of those things include inspiring worship and music, a nurturing community, support for families, inclusive activities for LGBTQ folks, the promotion of racial equity, and advocacy and service for our neighbors. We continue to love God, love each other and change the world.

Stewardship is also a crucial part of our spiritual life.

This year, as a church, we are celebrating the “future with hope” that God promises in the Book of Jeremiah.

God shared this promise when the Israelites were exiled, far from home, cut off from their religious traditions, unsure of what would come next. “You will call on me and come and pray to me,” God says, “and I will listen to you.”

God explains that they do not want us to be fearful or idle. God calls us to help bring about that future with hope.

Here at Foundry, we have seen repeatedly what happens when we can perceive the future with hope and work toward it.

More than 200 years ago, when an invading army marched on Washington and filled the skies with fire and smoke, God planted the seeds of Foundry Church, and envisioned a future with hope.

When the forces of war spread across the globe in December 1941, God helped world leaders gathered at Foundry perceive a better alternative, a future with hope.

When hate and hurt was spreading through our denomination 27 years ago (as sadly, it continues to do today), Foundry took a different path. We became a Reconciling Congregation, one that includes everybody under the umbrella as we embody God’s future with hope.

When Foundry marches and serves and worships alongside our brethren from historically Black churches, we are cultivating a future with hope.

When we support our unhoused neighbors sleeping on the streets or on our steps, when we push for a new reality in this city for the most vulnerable among us, we demand a future with hope.

When God brought YOU to this place, whether it be in these pews or online, God is creating a future with hope.

We are where we are today, because people in the past believed in THIS future with hope.

Today, we have the chance to support and sustain Foundry’s a future with hope for the years to come.

How? The quickest way is to fill out the form foundryumc.org/estimate. You can do it right now.

You can also fill out a pledge card or use the kiosks at church. You can also talk with our financial staff or a member of the stewardship team.

We need you to fill out the form, even if you have a recurring gift on autopay. It is very helpful for the Board and staff to know your estimate of giving as they craft the coming year’s budget.

The commitment form only takes a few minutes to fill out. It seems like such a small task, but it will go a long way in preparing us to live into God’s future with hope.

Yours in Christ,

Dan Vock and Gwen Williamson
Stewardship team co-chairs
